The Claddagh

The ‘Claddagh’ is a unique Celtic symbol of love, friendship and loyalty. The design incorporates the ‘heart’ of love, the ‘hands’ of friendship and the ‘crown’ of loyalty. The tradition dates back to the 16th Century when a native of Galway City, Richard Joyce was captured by Algerian Corsairs on his way to the West Indies.

When he eventually returned he settled in the small village of Claddagh just outside Galway City where he crafted the first Claddagh Ring. As the years have passed, the powerful sentiment that the Claddagh evokes of love and friendship has endured.

The ‘Claddagh’ is a timeless symbol of Irish Love, Friendship and Loyalty.
